Sweat .effects! That’s one of the most ignored part of the visuals. Yep, I’m totally serious. Why, you ask? It’s because it shows the developers ability to concentrate on the detail and pay attention to the finer parts. It might not make a lot of sense when you look at it but it does enhance the overall visuals and the look of the characters. Making believable characters can really immerse you in the game, so the animations and yes, sweat effects; especially in genres like sports all work together to bring that realistic feel. We bring you 8 games with realistic sweat effects that you may have never noticed while playing these games. Take a look at them below.
FIFA 10
Sports games are all about guys sweating in one way or another (he says whilst trying to maintain an air of heterosexuality), and it is thus that FIFA, one of the most popular sports franchises needs decent sweat effects. Though the visuals get better with each instalment, it was in 2010 that the perspiration effects really began to show.
Fight Night Champion 3
Fight Night has always been good at rendering sweat, but what is most impressive is how the sweat isn't locked on to the character models. Just look in this image at how the sweat flies off as the guy takes a punch to the face. Classic.
Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain is one of the best looking games of this generation, and the title is indicative of the moving water particles that the game renders so brilliantly. Mixed in with this rain though is sweat, and it rolls down the cheeks of the characters in a way that is mind-blowing.
UFC 2009
Another great example of sweaty (and I'm sure entirely straight) men getting sweaty and grappling each other on the floor in increasingly manly ways. The series' 2009 release offered many improvements, but it was the graphical flourishes that were the biggest step up. Just look at the perspiration roll.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Sweat patches are the name of the game. It's a subtle but telling technique of visual quality, an apt attribute for a game such as Uncharted 2 to have. It's considered one of the best looking games ever, and that's for damn good reason.
Virtua Tennis 4
Another example of a surprising visual jump. As the first Virtua Tennis title to grace our current generation of consoles, Sega pulled out all the stops when it came to character models. The detail was exceptional, with every bead of sweat looking immaculate.
